What Bemis Gets Right

Bemis has spent over a century perfecting something most people don’t think about until it breaks—and that focus shows in every hinge, every finish, every quiet close.

Built to Last Years

Bemis seats use solid construction and corrosion-resistant hardware that won’t loosen, crack, or need replacing after a few months of normal use.

No More Slamming

Their STA-TITE seats feature commercial-grade hinges that actually stay tight, plus Whisper Close technology that prevents the loud slam without complicated mechanisms that fail.

Easy to Clean

Removable hinge designs let you actually clean around the mounting area where grime builds up, and non-porous surfaces resist staining from everyday bathroom use.

Why We Make Toilet Seats

Most people don’t think about their toilet seat until it breaks, wobbles, or refuses to stay up. We think about them constantly. Bemis has been manufacturing toilet seats since 1936 because someone has to, and we’d rather it be us than some company treating them like an afterthought. We’re not here to revolutionize your bathroom or sell you on luxury features you don’t need—we’re here to make a part of your house that works quietly, lasts longer than it should, and doesn’t make you think about it again for years.

We started in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, making wooden seats when that’s what everyone used. When plastic made more sense, we switched. When slow-close hinges stopped being a luxury feature and became something people actually wanted, we made them standard. We don’t chase trends in bathroom design—we just pay attention to what breaks, what annoys people, and what actually matters when you’re replacing something at 9 PM because the hardware store closes in twenty minutes. Our seats fit more toilets than you’d think possible because we’ve measured nearly all of them. They don’t crack in cold bathrooms. The hinges don’t loosen after six months. They’re not trying to be smart or connect to your phone.

You shouldn’t have to think about your toilet seat. If you bought one from us years ago and forgot we exist, we did our job right.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about product features, installation, care, and warranty coverage.

How are these seats installed?

Most models feature a simple twist-and-lock hinge system that requires no tools. The seat aligns with standard toilet bowls, and the hinges snap into place securely. Installation typically takes just a few minutes. Some premium models may include additional hardware for extra stability, with clear instructions provided in the packaging.

What materials are used in construction?

The majority of seats are made from durable molded wood or high-impact plastic, both designed for long-term bathroom use. Molded wood options offer a solid, substantial feel with moisture-resistant coatings. Plastic models are lightweight and easy to clean. All materials resist chipping, fading, and common household chemicals.

Can the seat be removed for cleaning?

Many models include STA-TITE fastening systems or quick-release hinges that allow the seat to be lifted off completely without tools. This makes thorough cleaning of both the seat and toilet surface straightforward. The seat clicks back into place securely after cleaning.

Are slow-close features standard?

Whisper-close technology is available on select models, preventing slamming through controlled lowering mechanisms. This feature reduces noise and extends product life by eliminating impact damage. Standard models without this feature are also available at lower price points.

What does the warranty typically cover?

Most products include a one-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects and material issues. This includes problems with hinges, cracks in the seat material, or finish deterioration under normal use. The warranty does not cover damage from harsh chemicals, improper installation, or accidental impacts.

How should these be cleaned and maintained?

Regular cleaning with mild soap and water keeps surfaces in good condition. Harsh abrasives, bleach-based cleaners, and acetone should be avoided as they can damage finishes. A soft cloth works best for routine maintenance. Hinges may benefit from occasional tightening to maintain a secure fit over time.

After three years, the hinges are still tight and the seat hasn’t yellowed at all. My wife kept saying we needed to upgrade our builder-grade seats, and I’m glad we finally did—these actually feel like quality.

I have two boys under 10, and this seat has survived everything they’ve thrown at it. The slow-close feature has saved us from so many slammed lids at 6 AM. Worth every penny for the peace and quiet alone.

I’m a property manager with 14 units, and I’ve been replacing all the seats with Bemis over the past year. Tenants actually notice and comment on them, which never happened with the cheap ones. They install fast and I haven’t had a single callback for a loose seat.
